Audix Mics TR40
The TR40 is a measurement-style electret condenser, built around the 6mm omni capsules that are common to this application.
The mic is a physical clone of the MBHO MBNM 550 EL, although the specs and performance of the two mics differ widely. Harvey Gerst of Indian Trail Recording Studio has been quoted as speculating that MBHO was the supplier of the TR40, but based on the different specs of the two mics, this seems unlikely.
The TR40 is believed to have been a transformerless design.
The mic was replaced in Audix’ product line in 2008 by the TR40A, which according to published specs is noisier, less sensitive, and has lower max SPL.
